Antonio Cassano has again spoken about the current situation at Inter after their resounding 4-0 victory over Atalanta, particularly focusing on coach Simone Inzaghi and his predecessor Antonio Conte. Here’s what the former playmaker said on the show Viva El Futbol:

“From what they tell me, he does little to nothing and continues to do what Conte has always done: I see that Inter, Conte’s Inter. It’s not Inzaghi who improves the players, but he’s still well-regarded by the press. I remember that until a year ago, before the Champions League, Inter was sending Inzaghi away because he wasn’t moving forward with Porto: Onana makes two sensational saves. He rightfully progresses with Milan, and then loses the Champions League final to Manchester City.”

“He won the championship deservedly, but in my opinion, no one has improved in this team, except for Lautaro. The other players go to Europe and struggle tremendously. Calhanoglu? Very strong, I like him like crazy, but Inter cannot be compared to City, which plays wonderful football. Inter doesn’t do that. In Italy it plays, but it has two teams.”

Everyone is free to express their opinion, of course. However, claiming that Inzaghi’s Inter plays the same way as Conte’s is at least unique, given that the coach from Piacenza has brought new ideas, first of all, the constant positional interchange admired a few days ago against Atalanta. This does not mean that Conte’s team was not well organized, effective, and – not a trivial detail – winning. It’s also unique to claim that no one has improved in this team besides Lautaro. Thuram’s growth, Dimarco’s rise, Barella’s continuous improvements in quality and game vision, and Calhanoglu’s transformation into one of Europe’s top directors are obvious to everyone. Just to name a few examples.
