Inter has identified Cristian Romero as the absolute priority for the incoming transfer market. According to Corriere dello Sport, the representatives of the Argentine defender arrived in Milan on Thursday evening, coinciding with Ausilio‘s return from the training camp in Donaueschingen. The major maneuvers continue with the aim of providing Chivu with the requested reinforcement for the defense.
The Nerazzurri club is working on two fronts: on one side Tottenham, which offered Romero during the first contacts for Spence, and on the other the player’s entourage. The latter represents the hottest channel, because reaching an agreement with the defender is fundamental before sitting at the table with the Spurs. Inter has received full availability from Romero to return to Italy and play at San Siro, but competition is not lacking.
Among the main rivals are Arsenal and Chelsea, with the latter having already paid 60 million to Crystal Palace for the Frenchman Lacroix. Barcelona also remains in line, but must deal with registration problems that reduce its room for maneuver. Inter does not have the same financial power as its English competitors, but can offer different elements: a starring role in Chivu’s system, the showcase of the Champions League which Chelsea lacks, and the possibility of reuniting with Lautaro Martinez, a teammate in the national team.
Romero already knows Serie A, where he made his mark before being bought by Tottenham for over 50 million. Returning to a familiar league where he has proven he can make a difference is another argument in the ongoing negotiations.
