After the official closing of the summer transfer market, let’s focus again on the future of Inter. On June 30th next year, in fact, 8 players will see their contracts expire and the Nerazzurri club will have to make several decisions. Inevitably, there will be some changes in the squad.
## Inter transfer market, players out of contract in 2025
Let’s start with the goalkeepers, a department that recently welcomed Josep Martinez from Genoa. Both of Inter’s other goalkeepers, Yann Sommer and Raffaele Di Gennaro, will see their contracts expire in a year. Not to be overlooked: the Nerazzurri have an automatic renewal option on the Swiss goalkeeper until 2026.
The situation with defenders is very delicate, as both center-backs currently available to Simone Inzaghi have contracts expiring in 2025. Francesco Acerbi and Stefan de Vrij have not yet started discussions for an extension, but at least one of them could stay in Milan. Age also weighs on them, as the Italian will turn 37 in February, while the Dutchman will be 33 in February 2025.
Regarding the wingers, the imminent expirations concern Matteo Darmian and Denzel Dumfries. While evaluations on the first will be based on age and performance on the field, the situation regarding the second is more pressing. The former PSV player has been in talks with Inter executives for a possible renewal at 4 million net, but so far no agreement has been reached. Therefore, the possibility of a free departure cannot be completely ruled out.
For the attack, the path seems already set: Marko Arnautovic and Joaquin Correa will bid farewell in a year. These are two players that Inter would have let go in the last summer session in front of concrete offers. In the case of the Argentine, a possible departure in the January transfer market cannot be excluded.
## Inter players expiring contract: the case of Mkhitaryan
There is another player who could be released in a year, even though his contract expires in 2026: Henrikh Mkhitaryan. At the time of his renewal, at the end of 2023, an agreement was made allowing for termination with a penalty payment a year in advance.
The decision will be difficult and will also depend on how this season goes, but in this context, it is worth highlighting the possible return of Giovanni Fabbian from Bologna: Inter can bring him back home by paying 12 million in 2025 with a buy-back option, after selling him for 5 million over a year ago.
