A farewell match was held in the night to celebrate the career of Adriano, former striker of Inter, who managed to win over many Inter fans and others with his breathtaking talent. He was brought to Italy in 2001 by the former president Massimo Moratti, who has always had a special affection for him.
Adriano organized a friendly match in an iconic Brazilian football stadium, the Maracanà, with all his friends and former teammates who had shared the locker room with him in Italy and Brazil. The two teams that took to the field were The Legends of Flamengo, a team that the Emperor supports and where he began his career, and Friends from Italy.
In this second team, there were many important former players from the Inter history such as Cordoba, Gamarra, Zé Elias, and Materazzi. Adriano played a half-time in this match where certainly there were no shortages of memories and tears for this great talent.
At the start of the match, he received a sort of honour from another legendary Inter and Carioca footballer, Ronaldo>, the Phenomenon, who couldn’t play due to a muscle problem, but handed him his iconic wristband before the match began. Here is a video with the best footage of this friendly at the Maracanà organized for the Emperor.
