The defeat of Inter in the derby of Milan continues to fuel analysis and reflections. Speaking to Sky Calcio Club, Marchegiani shared his point of view on the city derby won by Milan 3-1, responding to a question from Caressa about whether the Nerazzurri could have gotten back into the match.
“The first half, yes. The second half, or rather after the 3-1, no. And I have to honestly say that I haven’t really been able to explain this,” declared the former footballer, now technical commentator. Marchegiani then framed Inter’s performance in the context of the season: “We’ve all seen a bit of Inter’s matches since the start of the season. It’s the sixth time they’ve had to come from behind. A team that’s not perfect, that has fallen behind in some situations, but in certain phases of the match really gives you the feeling of being an unstoppable team.”
The reasoning then focused on the final phase of the match. According to Marchegiani, tactical considerations lose weight in the face of a fact: “It’s clear that if Chivu says that Esposito and Bonny had practically only ten minutes of play, it’s clear that all the tactical discussions have no value.”
However, there remains a very precise technical reading: “But in my opinion, it was clear, at a certain point, that this is a team used to playing with two strikers. They were simply missing, there was a gap.” A structural absence, that of the reference strikers, which at the decisive moment of the match was clearly felt.
