Speaking to Sky Calcio Club, former defender Bergomi analyzed Milan‘s victory in the derby against Inter, giving a clear assessment of both teams.
On Milan, Bergomi has no doubts: “With me, you’re preaching to the choir when it comes to the scudetto. Milan has players who can take on opponents one-on-one, they’re fast, they can change pace. They know how to defend better than before: they won all the crosses at the end yesterday. The team is there, well built. They have everything to be a European team.” This judgment also includes the midfield, where Rabiot “is dominant,” and the Rossoneri’s ability to highlight their opponents’ weaknesses.
On the Nerazzurri side, the former Inter captain pointed out a physical problem: “I think Inter are not in good shape right now, physically I mean. I saw it in Venice too.” Bergomi then reiterated what he calls his mantra: the team did not replace the two defenders, merely rotating their roles with the same players on the field.
Bergomi also emphasized how Inter is getting little from the transfer market. In the derby, Spence offered something, while Jones had little playing time and Stones was left out. The Nerazzurri midfield, he concluded, “is built differently.”
