With the defensive issue (hopefully) resolved thanks to the arrival of Stones, Inter continues its search for a right winger who can take on the heavy legacy of Dumfries. After missing out, for different reasons, first on Palestra and then Khalaili, the Nerazzurri management is still evaluating numerous profiles, but at the moment there is no one who convinces them 100%.
However, there is a new factor to consider: the growth of Andy Diouf. As reported by Corriere dello Sport: “Moving to the right flank, the truth is that Inter has not yet identified the right profile. With Palestra set aside, plan B was Khalaili, but he did not pass the fitness tests. At that point, the idea of Spence emerged, a standout at the World Cup with England. But he too was set aside, since it doesn’t make much sense to spend over 30 million for a player who doesn’t exactly have the desired characteristics.”
“So who can be Dumfries’ heir? Let’s say that Diouf’s breakthrough has taken some pressure off the search. It is clear, however, that someone is needed in that position. The difficulty is finding the right fit between technical characteristics and price. Among the names mentioned, Douè is too expensive and Strasbourg is blocking the move, Read is still raw, as well as being pressured by Nottingham Forest, Belghali is considered not physically strong enough, and that leaves Ndoye, who a couple of summers ago was the favorite to take Dumfries’ place, in case of his departure.”
“At the moment, however, the track for the former Bologna player has not been reignited. And Ausilio, recently, has also ‘shut down’ the idea of a return for Perisic. So? A Mister X cannot be ruled out, with or without a transfer budget.”
