Aleks Stankovic’s intentions are clear: the Serbian midfielder wants to continue his adventure at Inter despite the increased competition in midfield following the arrival of Curtis Jones. According to Sportmediaset, however, the Nerazzurri club is evaluating all options for the 2005-born player, who is coming off an excellent season at Bruges that ended with winning the Belgian championship and being individually recognized as the best player.
Considering Calhanoglu, Barella, Jones, Mkhitaryan, Sucic, Zielinski, and Stankovic, there are seven midfielders available to the Nerazzurri coach. It’s a department rich in quality and alternatives, but inevitably someone risks finding less playing time. Stankovic himself would be the most at risk. The issue is not about his qualities, which the club acknowledges, but about the playing time he might get during the season.
This is where the idea of a temporary transfer comes from. A straight loan would allow the youngster to play more regularly, complete his development path, and return in a year with important experience under his belt. Gianluca Di Marzio, speaking on the TMW Podcast, also confirmed this possibility: with increased competition, Stankovic could become a market opportunity in the final days of the summer transfer window.
Some clubs would be ready to welcome him, even in Italy. Among them is Torino. At the moment, however, the player does not seem inclined to leave Milan. Stankovic has reportedly not given any indication of being open to a transfer, not even a temporary one, and his intention remains to fight for his place at Inter.
The final days of the transfer window will be decisive. The club will have to decide whether to keep Stankovic as an alternative or send him out on loan to guarantee him more playing time. The choice could depend above all on the midfielder’s wishes and the guarantees of playing time that the coach will be able to offer him.
