The central defender has become Inter‘s priority in the transfer market. After missing out on Palestra and Khalaili for the right flank, where a replacement for Dumfries is needed, the management has shifted its focus to another area. The name that everyone in the Nerazzurri camp agrees on is Cristian Romero.
According to Corriere dello Sport, what started as a sudden opportunity — proposed by Tottenham during the initial talks for Spence — has become something concrete as the days have passed. The Argentine is considered a signing capable of raising the team’s level: in Chivu‘s vision, he would allow the team to play higher up the pitch and always be aggressive in winning back the ball.
The English club is asking for a figure close to 50 million, more than what was requested for Spence himself. Marotta and Ausilio will have to work to obtain more favorable terms, with the ideal remaining a loan with a conditional obligation to buy. Two factors could facilitate the deal: Romero’s desire to leave London and De Zerbi‘s decision to do without him.
The Seleccion’s central defender appreciates the Nerazzurri’s interest and would gladly return to Serie A, a league he already experienced with Genoa and Atalanta. Barcelona is also tracking him, but at the moment his preference would be for the Milan club. His leverage could prove useful in negotiations with the Spurs, and a new contact with the player’s entourage is likely in the coming hours.
Ausilio has returned from Donaueschingen, where Marotta will arrive today, and there could already be news by the weekend. Inter has taken the new path.
