From Modric to Mastantuono: DOUBLE announcement from Marotta

In the middle of a break for national team commitments, today the president of Inter, Beppe Marotta, was a guest at the Principe di Savoia hotel for the presentation of Stefano Boldrini’s new book. The number one of the Nerazzurri club spoke about the transfer market and sustainability, in an era that is still anything but simple for the clubs of the Italian championship.

Marotta cited two recent examples, starting with the arrival in Serie A of Luka Modric: “I don’t think it’s worrying that a 40-year-old plays at this level with us, I see him as a positive advertisement for Italian football. Our children fall in love watching a player like that. The trend of our football is downward, today our league is transitional and is no longer the Eldorado of the 2000s. Today players come to us in the declining phase. All the big Italian clubs spend at most 30-35 million for a 2004, a 2005, a 2006. Real spent 70 for Mastantuono. The big clubs in Serie A have to rely on capital gains to be able to operate in the market. Today it is a characteristic tool of the balance sheet, without capital gains Milan, Inter, and Juve would not be able to present an adequate balance sheet. This is the difference between Italy and England. English TV rights, moreover, are worth four times ours abroad and are sold for 3 billion. We at most reach 200 million. The economic aspect does not give us competitive power.”
