A few months ahead of the transfer window opening, there is already talk of a farewell between Inter and Davide Frattesi. The Nerazzurri midfielder, just like this time last year, is seriously considering leaving the club. It’s not just a matter of playing time, which he still struggles to find in Milan, but above all the risk of losing his spot in the National Team in a World Cup year (hoping the Azzurri manage to qualify through the playoffs).

As reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, his minutes under Cristian Chivu on the bench have dropped even further compared to the Inzaghi era: “Among the midfielders, only Diouf has played less than him. Frattesi has collected 363 minutes in ten appearances across all competitions. Chivu gave him a starting spot against Cremonese, Saint Gilloise, and Kairat Almaty.”

Considering the first 14 matches of last year, Frattesi started as a regular on seven occasions, while this year only three. Furthermore, under Inzaghi he was never left on the bench for an entire match, whereas with Chivu it has already happened four times (initially also due to the inguinal hernia surgery last summer).

In short, everything suggests a new transfer request from the former Sassuolo player in January. Disappointed by the expectations that Chivu had generated and that had convinced him to stay, Frattesi will return to knock on the directors’ door to discuss his future. At that point, it will be necessary to understand what the club’s plans are: a year ago his valuation was around 45 million euros, which rose to 70 in the face of requests from direct competitors such as Napoli and Juventus.

Will Frattesi finally be able to convince Chivu and earn more playing time in the Nerazzurri midfield, or will a permanent transfer be the only way to meet his ambitions for more minutes on the pitch?
