On the eve of the match against Turkey, Nicolò Barella spoke to Sportmediaset about the current state of the National Team and his role in the Azzurri squad. The Inter midfielder addressed several topics, from being benched against France to being left out against Turkey in the previous match, as well as the growth path of the team led by Roberto Mancini.
Asked about a possible desire for revenge after the recent decisions of the head coach, Barella replied clearly: “Revenge? No, I know who I am and what I can give to the National Team. I know what my teammates think of me, I’m ready to play whenever the coach decides. The important thing is that Italy wins and does well, so we can regain the enthusiasm of wearing the Azzurri shirt.”
The Nerazzurri player then reflected on the comparison between the current National Team and the one that triumphed at Euro 2021: “It takes time. The start has been positive, aside from the first match. Maybe we were a bit rusty, weighed down by what happened in the previous months. We have all shown that we want to do better than in the past and regain the trust of the Italian people.”
Regarding the upcoming match, Barella highlighted the difficulties the opponent might present: “It has definitely been a long break, we weren’t used to it. There are commitments to honor, and we are doing that. It will be an important match to confirm that what happened in the previous games was not a coincidence. Turkey is wounded after the latest results, and we will put everything we have on the field to win.”
