The 3-1 defeat suffered against Milan stings, and Bastoni makes no excuses. Speaking to SportMediaset, the Inter defender spoke openly after the derby, pointing to the mental approach as the main cause of the misstep.

“We started badly with two early situations that set the tone for the match: then we got back into it and we conceded the 3-1 goal at our best moment, when they had felt the impact of our goal. It really hurt us, we are not happy and it’s not what we hoped for, but we have to move on because we play again in three days.”

Bastoni himself, who had temporarily reopened the game with his goal, also addressed the topic of derbies against Milan, acknowledging the shortcomings in their approach on the field compared to what was prepared tactically. “I can’t say what it is we struggle with against Milan, you can prepare well with video analysis but then it’s all about attitude and ours wasn’t right. We’re not happy, and rightly so: in fact, we’re very disappointed.”

On the debate about the formation, the defender closed off any room for interpretation: “I don’t think it’s the fault of the formation or anything else, we got the attitude wrong, which wasn’t right for nights like this.”

Eyes already on the upcoming fixtures, with the awareness that the disappointment of the derby cannot weigh more than it should on a season that is still long. “We have too much experience to carry scars with us, we’ll have to analyze what we did wrong but restart with the right spirit, the season is really long.”
