In view of the upcoming 2025 Club World Cup, which will formally begin this afternoon with the group stage draw in Miami, we also retrace the history of Inter Milan in this competition.

A tournament that will be entirely renewed next summer compared to the past and that will see the participation of 32 teams. This competition will no longer be held annually, as it had been until the previous season, but every four years following the steps of a traditional World Cup for National Teams.

Inter Milan’s first and only participation in a Club World Cup, officially established in 2000, dates back to December 2010. Having won the Champions League a few months earlier, thanks to the final won in Madrid against Bayern Munich, the Nerazzurri automatically qualified for the Club World Cup.

The edition that took place in the United Arab Emirates from December 8 to 18, 2010, saw the participation of Inter Milan from the semi-finals onwards. The Nerazzurri therefore played only two matches, both against relatively unknown teams.

The first one was a semi-final against the South Korean team, Seongnam, which Inter Milan beat convincingly 3-0 with goals by Stankovic, Zanetti, and Milito. They won another equally decisive and with the same score line against another ‘exotic’ team in the final: against the Congolese team, Mazembe, the team then coached by Rafa Benitez saw goals scored by Pandev, Eto’o, and Biabiany.
