Although Chivu would have preferred to keep Thuram at Appiano Gentile during the next break, the coach of France Zidane is reportedly considering calling him up for the next two Nations League matches: against Italy on November 12 and against Turkey on November 15. This was reported by L’Équipe.
The coach had surprisingly left the class of ’97 out of his first call-ups in his new role, opting for Esteban Le Paul from Rennes. However, the latter’s recent performances have not convinced as much as expected, and Zidane is now looking for a more reliable striker.
Marcus’s performances at the club are also contributing to a possible reconsideration. After Inter‘s comeback win against Fiorentina, the Nerazzurri coach had important words for his striker: “I don’t know if it’s thanks to me or to Zidane. We talked, because it’s the first time I’ve had the opportunity to spend three weeks with him during a long break. He also had a week off. And I think not being called up gave him extra motivation, because he has a lot to prove. He shows his leadership, who he is, what he represents. At a time when Lautaro is not here, he is taking responsibility on his shoulders. But he is an extraordinary player regardless, and he is proving it. Lately, even after playing 90 minutes, I saw him start the match at full speed, overtake his opponent and enter the box with devastating ferocity.”
If the call-up materializes, Thuram would miss the break at Appiano to join the French training camp, depriving Chivu of one of the most in-form players at the moment.
