On the occasion of the Venezia vs Inter match, valid for the ninth round of Serie A, the refereeing was entrusted to Pairetto from the Nichelino section, with assistants Meli and Ceccon, fourth official Fourneau, and the VAR duo composed of Camplone and Volpi. The match did not present major refereeing difficulties, although a contact in the Nerazzurri penalty area in the 23rd minute raised some questions.
In the 23rd minute, Bisseck and Lauerbach collided in the box: the striker went down, but Pairetto let play continue, indicating that the German had played the ball. VAR did not signal anything, however, replays show that Bisseck never touched the ball. The only possible explanation is the lightness of the contact, but doubts remain.
In the 14th minute, Ceccon flagged Adams for offside, although he appeared to be in a regular position: the play was not dangerous anyway. In the 15th minute, Helgason fell for a feint by Sucic in the box and brought him down: Pairetto let play continue, but any discussion was ended by the Croatian’s offside. In the 28th minute, yellow card for Bastoni, who obstructed Adams, stopping a dangerous Venezia attack: correct decision.
In the 29th minute, Lauerbach scored on a tap-in, taking advantage of a rebound saved by Provedel, but Kike Perez was offside by a few centimeters at the moment of the shot: the check confirmed the goal was disallowed. In the 52nd minute, Halhal blocked a cross with his arm, but it was kept close to his body: Pairetto saw it well and let play continue amid some mild protests. In the 55th minute, yellow card for Barella, who stopped Sohm on a counterattack in midfield: the Nerazzurri midfielder protested, but the sanction was correct.
In the 70th minute, Carlos Augusto fouled Yeboah after several attempts: for the continuity of the fouls, he would have deserved a yellow card, but the referee spared him. In the 72nd minute, Adams beat Provedel in the box and scored, but assistant Ceccon raised the flag for offside: VAR confirmed. In the 80th minute, Venezia protested for a contact in midfield on Sohm, in the action that led to Moreno‘s own goal: Pairetto judged it regular and validated Inter’s second goal. The on-field decision was confirmed.
