In an official note at the end of the Executive Committee meeting in Prague yesterday, UEFA announced that San Siro will not host the Champions League final in 2027. Despite Meazza being the only candidate, this decision was taken following the latest events directly involving Inter and Milan.

In the statement issued by the body chaired by Ceferin, it reads that “The Municipality of Milan could not guarantee that the San Siro Stadium and the surrounding areas would not be affected by renovation work during the period of the UEFA Champions League 2027 final”. For this reason, UEFA has decided not to “assign the final to Milan and to reopen the application process to nominate a suitable venue, with a decision expected for May / June 2025”.

All in all, this is news that can be positively received by Inter. This is because the Municipality, which would have had every economic interest in hosting the 2027 final, filters the possibility of starting work on San Siro, whether it is the renovation of Meazza, or in anticipation of the construction of a new facility in the area dedicated to the current parking lots as hoped by Nerazzurri and Rossoneri.

A news that cannot yet be read as an absolute guarantee of work that will start soon, but that filters a ray of hope on the stadium issue after years of absolute immobility in front of Inter and Milan’s attempts.
