At the microphones of DAZN, Alex Meret commented on Napoli‘s defeat at San Siro. The Azzurri goalkeeper expressed regret for the final outcome, emphasizing how the team had turned the match around by going 2-0 up at the start of the second half.
“Given how it was going, with the 2-0 scored at the beginning of the second half, it’s not easy to score here, let alone two, it’s a shame to come away with zero points. We need to improve on the details that punished us, it’s a pity, but we played openly,” said Meret. The goalkeeper then analyzed the final phase of the match: “Maybe we dropped back a bit too much, they have quality and physicality and it’s difficult to defend against these teams. We had brought it to our side, there is anger and regret for the result.”
Asked about the necessary reaction after two consecutive defeats, the Neapolitan number one tried to instill confidence in the environment. “Surely these are two defeats that sting. Today we played openly, we did what the coach asked us, with strong initial pressing and then dropping back when necessary. We managed to do that for most of the match,” he explained.
“We have to be angry but the season has just started and we have to lift our heads. It will be long and difficult but we must not lose confidence and enthusiasm. Now we have a big match in the Champions League and we want to bounce back in the league with some wins. We need to analyze and be angry but we have to react immediately,” concluded Meret.
