Simone Inzaghi’s attitude after his Inter’s tough defeat in Sunday’s derby against Milan has been very clear and consistent, both publicly and behind closed doors when speaking to the team.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the coach has acted as a leader at the microphone. First of all, he took full responsibility for the defeat admitting that “we were not a team.” And then he was keen to dismiss the excuse of their Champions League commitments which forced Inter to return to Italy only on Thursday after the demanding trip to Manchester City, especially considering the type of match they had. However, for Inzaghi, the problem against Milan was not fatigue.
Corriere dello Sport reveals that already on Sunday evening, right after the game, in the San Siro locker rooms, there was a “strong indictment” by the coach towards the players. Inzaghi finds it inconceivable to play a derby this way, but especially to return to the field after half-time with a 1-1 score (despite a less than convincing first half) even more sluggish. The coach “saved” only 25 minutes of the first half out of the 90-minute total.
Today at Appiano Gentile, training will resume and the tone will change, with the coach now talking to his team “as an elder brother”. He will particularly stress the importance of pride and the fact that such defeats – if taken in the right way – can also be healthy for the continuation of the season. Beginning with Udinese-Inter, scheduled for next Saturday.
