Matteo Darmian gave a lengthy interview to the Gazzetta dello Sport, touching on various topics related to his experience at Inter and his future plans. The former defender spoke about Marco Palestra‘s decision not to wear the Nerazzurri shirt, expressing respect for the young player’s choice.
“I respect his decision and no one should judge it. Every situation is different and much also depends on the people you have around you and the advice you receive, but I think the player’s personality can still make the difference. Before going to Manchester, I had played three great Serie A seasons and felt I had earned that move. Today the market is different,” said Darmian.
Regarding his relationship with the coaches he had in Milan, he summed up his years with the Nerazzurri. “With Conte it was easier to fit in because I already knew him from the national team. He gave me a winning mentality and laid the foundations for the cycle. Inzaghi gave continuity by giving us more freedom on the pitch: it’s a pity we didn’t win even more, but we were always competitive. Chivu found a strong group, but at a delicate moment from a psychological point of view. He immediately understood that, even before tactics, it was necessary to regain mental balance.”
As for the future, Darmian revealed that the club had offered him a position in the youth sector. “Inter had offered me a role in the youth sector: I was honored, but it wasn’t the right time. I would like, however, to coach one day, starting with the youngsters,” concluded the former Nerazzurri defender.
