Ivan Cordoba sees the Nerazzurri as protagonists again next season. The former Colombian defender, interviewed by the Gazzetta dello Sport, shared his thoughts on the team’s current situation and the ongoing transfer operations.
According to Cordoba, the team will be competitive on every front because “when you wear that shirt you don’t choose your objectives, you go on the pitch to win every match, without neglecting the league to focus on Europe.” A philosophy that reflects the winning mentality always associated with the Nerazzurri colors.
On the transfer front, the Colombian enthusiastically welcomed the now imminent arrival of John Stones, a high-profile free agent after leaving Manchester City. “A market opportunity, I said long ago that he is one of the defenders around that I like the most. If he arrives on favorable terms, it becomes a great deal. A typical Marotta move,” said the former Nerazzurri captain.
The focus then shifts to Cristian Romero, a more complicated target but one who would represent a high-level reinforcement for the defense led by Cristian Chivu. “He would be a great addition. He’s the right player to strengthen the department. I see a bit of myself in him in terms of determination and character, even though Cuti is more ‘physical’ than I was. He would complete the squad,” explained Cordoba.
The former defender’s perspective confirms how both profiles are considered functional to the Nerazzurri’s technical project, with Stones already close to joining and Romero remaining a concrete target to raise the level of the squad.
