Tomorrow, barring any unforeseen events, John Stones will begin his adventure with the Nerazzurri. The English defender is expected in Milan for the medical examinations that will precede the signing of a two-year contract with Inter.
As reported by the Gazzetta dello Sport, Stones will be reunited with Manuel Akanji, with whom he shared three seasons at Manchester City. The two played 58 matches together, for a total of 3,777 minutes on the pitch.
Their partnership in the Citizens’ shirt was filled with success: the 2023 Treble with the Champions League (won in the final precisely against Inter), Premier League and FA Cup, followed by another national title in 2024. In the same year, they also won the European Super Cup and the Club World Cup, while in their last season together they claimed the Community Shield.
The Barnsley native brings to Cristian Chivu‘s team a wealth of winning experience and an impressive trophy cabinet. He does not arrive with the intention of taking the starting spot from Akanji, but will be ready to step in when necessary. The two could also play together, with the Swiss player shifted to the right in place of Yann Bisseck.
Chivu will resolve any doubts once Stones is available, upon his return from vacation.
