According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, one of the most delicate choices that Chivu will have to face in today’s match against Venezia concerns the composition of the offensive department. The presence of Bonny among the starters is considered certain, while that of Pio Esposito remains likely but not yet definitive.
“The Azzurro is not at his best, he has not been able to train as he would have liked during a period of slight mental and physical decline. Chivu will decide only at the last moment. For days, the coach has been strongly tempted to send the young pair back onto the field, which seems to be a taboo for the Nerazzurri,” reports the newspaper. The two have only shared a starting shirt in last year’s derby, which ended 1-0 with a goal from Estupinan.
The situation in attack pushes towards this solution: Lautaro is injured and Thuram is on the ropes. The Frenchman will only take the field if Pio is not available. The “rosea” however highlights how the two youngsters have come from very different paths this season.
“Numbers in hand, the gap even seems to be widening: the Azzurro has played all eight Serie A matches, even starting seven of them, for 474 minutes, with two goals and two assists; Bonny has the same number of goals in seven appearances, all as a substitute, and just 155 minutes. One goal every 77 minutes compared to one every 237 minutes for his teammate. Both would like to erase that March derby, right in the week that will lead again to the Diavolo,” reads the Gazzetta.
