An arbitration performance that passes with flying colors is not what Pairetto delivered in the match between Venezia and Inter. According to Corriere dello Sport, it was a refereeing performance “full of errors and blunders,” with some decisions that raised strong doubts.
The newspaper points the finger first and foremost at the goal for 0-1: “Serious mistake on the contact between Carlos Augusto and Sohm on the goal for 0-1. Carlos Augusto crashes into Sohm, side and left leg on the opponent’s right. Even if he had grazed the ball, it stays there: Pairetto lets play continue, the VAR (of course) silent, now refereeing is done at will.” A criticism that also extends to the lack of communication after the goal disallowed for offside against Lauberbach: “An international referee who forgets to make the announcement after the goal disallowed for offside by Lauberbach should stay at home. Instead, you’ll see, the magic circle will strike again.”
On the goal disallowed to Venezia in the first half, the Corriere notes that “Lauberbach’s offside is really a matter of millimeters. Adams’ is just a bit clearer (beyond Bastoni) served by Yeboah.” As for the contact between Bisseck and Lauberbach, the newspaper writes that “it’s possible Pairetto judged the intervention to be of little intensity, also considering the episode with Sucic, and lets play continue.”
Finally, regarding the foul suffered by the Croatian in the visitors’ area, the Corriere describes a “contact (and not a kick) on the right foot by Helgason, a touch that seems light by current standards. Real fouls are not called…”
