The new idea from Chivu weighs on the market: Akanji changes role

The last day of the transfer market in the last summer session gave Inter a very important signing by the name of Manuel Akanji. The Swiss defender arrived on loan from Manchester City and immediately established himself at a high level in the Nerazzurri defense, so much so that the club has already decided on his future.

Furthermore, according to today’s report from La Gazzetta dello Sport, coach Cristian Chivu is also considering placing him in the future at the center of a back three instead of De Vrij and Acerbi. This could lead to a change in Inter’s transfer market strategies because it means that next summer a right-sided center-back would need to be signed.

This is the explanation from the newspaper: “Sometimes Chivu will also have to do without Acerbi and De Vrij, but with long-term prospects as well: the center-backs from the last two league titles are respectively approaching 38 and 34 years old, and the 30-year-old Akanji embodies the ideal profile for a high-level handover.”
