Speaking on the sidelines of the executive master ‘Management of Sport’, the president of Inter Beppe Marotta spoke about various topics related to current events and more. From the impact Cristian Chivu has had on the Nerazzurri bench, to the issue of the new stadium and the demolition of San Siro. Here is an excerpt from the words of Inter’s number one:
CHIVU – “I am surprised that people were amazed by Cristian’s skill. We chose him because he represents important values, and there was the courage to go against the tide even at the media level. Some even evoked Mourinho, who, with all due respect… If I hadn’t had courage, I would have regretted it.”
CHAMPIONS FINAL – “The equation is no longer ‘if I spend, I win’, but motivation must be multiplied by competence. And that’s what the French did, changing their reference model: no more huge names, instead investing in young talents.”
SAN SIRO – “For old romantics, thinking about the demolition of San Siro brings bitterness and nostalgia. I myself, for the first time, entered it in 1966… It has been a container of enormous emotions. But this way, innovation is not taken into account, which also comes from the concept of modernity. We must respect the criteria that must be present inside a stadium: safety, which is lacking, hospitality, so you can stay at the stadium all day with all kinds of entertainment, and a sense of belonging. Having your own home. Renovation was unimaginable, and so we arrived at demolition. But it must be done. The new stadium brings direct and indirect benefits, no longer having a cathedral in the desert but a point of reference even during the week, giving life to social activities. Today we are at the bottom of the list. We take in 80 million a year from matchdays, Real’s goal is to exceed half a billion. Insist, because there is space and in the world of sport we are welcoming. You must be optimistic: there are jobs…”
