If Luis Henrique were to leave Milan, Inter would not target another winger but rather a different offensive profile. The management is looking for a player capable of beating his man and creating superiority in tight spaces, a sort of second striker able to start wide and then move inside.
In recent weeks, several names with these characteristics have circulated: from Moussa Diaby to Malick Fofana of Lyon. The profile is clear: attackers skilled in one-on-one situations, able to cut inside and create goal-scoring opportunities. Qualities that the Brazilian has struggled to show in his first year in Milan, hampered by the role of wing-back and the many defensive duties that have limited his offensive contribution.
At Viale della Liberazione, they do not rule out a sale if a suitable offer arrives. The investment for a replacement would not be significant, as it would be for an alternative to be used during the match and not a starter.
In this context, the name of Federico Chiesa emerges, currently at Liverpool alongside Curtis Jones, another target for the Nerazzurri. The 28-year-old from Genoa has not shone in the Premier League and the Reds are willing to let him go to lighten the squad of non-homegrown players, even on favorable terms.
Beppe Marotta has been following the former Juventus player for years and would probably have tried to bring him to Milan on a free transfer in the summer of 2024, before his move to England. The advantages of the deal would be multiple: Italian, in his prime, looking for redemption, good at dribbling and tactically versatile, having played on the right, on the left, and as a second striker.
However, there are some obstacles: Chiesa‘s career has often been hampered by injuries and his salary reaches 9.2 million euros gross until June 2028. Careful management of his energy and a possible pay cut to return to Italy through the main door could, however, make the deal feasible.
At the moment, there is no concrete negotiation, but during talks for Jones, the Nerazzurri management could inquire about the player’s exit conditions, perhaps on loan with an option to buy. The deal would still be subject to the sale of the Brazilian, who is still on the roster for now. For Chiesa, who recently advised Jones to accept Inter, it would be an opportunity to relaunch himself also with the National Team after being a key player in Roberto Mancini‘s squad that won the European Championship in 2021.
