Lautaro Martinez spoke to DAZN microphones after the draw against Roma, which came with his brace. The Nerazzurri captain analyzed the team’s performance and opened up about his own journey of professional growth.
“I feel sorry for Mazzola, I send my regards to the whole family, he was a legend for all of Italian football: he was a great for Inter’s history,” began the Argentine striker, recalling the passing of the Nerazzurri legend. On the match, Martinez did not hide his disappointment with the initial approach: “The first half is to be erased, we were not on the pitch and the attitude was not right: then in the second half we immediately changed our mentality.”
The Nerazzurri captain acknowledged the value of the point earned: “When you play these matches, if you lose a half it gets difficult: we weren’t able to get the three points, we stay with one which is excellent considering what Roma is doing.” On the difficulties in the first halves, the captain admitted: “It’s a matter of attitude and preparing the matches correctly: we do it, but we need to review how we start the matches because always chasing is difficult.”
Lautaro then spoke about his physical condition and the work done on his body. The Argentine revealed that he did not show up in the best condition last season: “How much do I run? I took care of my body, the Club World Cup was a very tough blow: even though I am a professional, I showed up in a way that was not correct. This year I paid a lot of attention to my body, I trained a lot after the World Cup which was difficult. I prepared well, I am happy but the important thing is Inter and I will always give everything.”
Finally, the captain anticipated the emotion for the evening dedicated to Messi: “Greeting Messi? I am ready, it will be an emotional and thrilling evening for what he has been for us and for world football. Football is leaving, we have to move forward but we have to move forward with his legacy.”
