The countdown has begun. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Generali Stadium will open its doors in the 2031-32 season, when Inter and Milan will leave the Meazza for the new facility, which is also set to host some matches of Euro 2032.
Some preparatory work is already underway in the area surrounding the old stadium, with part of the zone already fenced off and a consequent reduction in available parking spaces. The actual reclamation works, however, will begin in the early months of 2027, when the bureaucratic process for the necessary permits will also be completed. The closure of the Strategic Environmental Assessment, which evaluates the effects of the urban plan on the environment, traffic, pollution, and citizens’ health, is expected by December.
In the spring, the final go-ahead for the project will come from the Conference of Services, a body that brings together the Municipality, Region, Metropolitan City, Fire Brigade, ASL, and other competent authorities. The preliminary feasibility project will be submitted on Tuesday. The opening of the main construction site, dedicated to building the new stadium structure, is expected between next summer and the end of 2027.
On the legal front, on October 6, the Lombardy Regional Administrative Court rejected the five appeals filed in opposition to the sale of the Meazza and the land to the two clubs. Urbanization works are scheduled to start from October 2027. The inauguration of the new stadium is set between spring and summer 2031, while the demolition of the old facility will begin in July of the same year and will be completed before Euro 2032.
In the summer of 2033, the construction of commercial areas and the redevelopment of the entire area will begin, an intervention that will last about three years.
