During the latest episode of the Numer1 Podcast on Youtube, there was a clear discussion about what happened both on the field and especially off the field last Saturday in Napoli-Inter. From the controversial penalty awarded to the Azzurri, to the back-and-forth after the match between Beppe Marotta and Antonio Conte. On this subject, Ivan Zazzaroni recalled some previous incidents between the two during their time at Juventus.
These were the journalist’s words: “Marotta and Conte have historically not gotten along, since the days at Juve. Clearly there was a back-and-forth, Marotta wasn’t looking for a response. Penalty? That it influenced the match and directed it, after the 1-0 there was the crossbar, the post, maybe a bit, maybe a bit of balance, yes. But in the second half you disappeared, your team conceded a goal and didn’t react. As the great Max Allegri says, a penalty like that, if they give it to you, you take it, if they don’t, you get pissed off.”
On Marotta’s words, instead, Zazzaroni explained: “In football, people live on conspiracy theories and suspicions, so in the heat of the moment Conte thought he wanted in some way… pressure strategy? That still exists and one of the best at it is Marotta. Not about pressure, but about getting to say certain things so that someone understands, Marotta is excellent at that. Marotta League? Not that, that’s nonsense, in fact I’ve never supported it.”
