After three consecutive appearances on the bench in as many league matches, Davide Frattesi took center stage for the national team by putting up two remarkable performances against France and Israel, scoring in both games. At that point, many called for his being a regular starter or at least given more playing time with Inter.

Simone Inzaghi fielded him from the start in Monza, but his performance was inadequate. This was followed by the final bits against Manchester City (where he came in at 81′) and, most notably, his entry into the derby match against Milan at 63′. Frattesi didn’t start well, also making a mistake on Gabbia’s goal that gave the derby to the Rossoneri.

Today Tuttosport criticizes the former Sassuolo harshly: “The Italian, when he plays, shows why he can’t find consistency: Frattesi is a formidable assailant, but he doesn’t have in his dna the ability to link play – essential in Inzaghi’s tactical design. Perhaps, in this sense, it would have been better to heed the overtures received from Roma last summer: with that money (the Giallorossi would have reached 35-40 million) a more functional midfielder could have been bought in terms of characteristics. Because Frattesi may be very good, but he has little to do with this Inter.”
