Named as the man of the year for 2024 by the magazine GQ, Marcus Thuram granted a fun interview. The French striker of Inter, who returned to Appiano Gentile in recent days after his commitments with the French National Team, spoke about his first year in Milan and the immediate link with the Nerazzurri colors.
INTER – Accepting Inter’s offer was an easy choice. Before coming to Milan, I watched my future teammates on TV, saw that they were a very strong team. They proved it by reaching the Champions League final.
FIRST SEASON – My growth is a combination of many good things that have happened to me. I think the goal against Milan in the first leg of the derby last season was the beginning of everything. It was a special game and people still didn’t know me very well. Scoring in that way was like introducing me to Inter fans. Winning the Scudetto gave me strength, we made many sacrifices and we deserved to win it. But that victory was not the end of something, we can do even better and we have important goals.
QUALITIES – I feel like a strong player, technical, who knows how to dodge the man, but what makes me unique is physicality. There are very fast players but not particularly strong and there are others strong but not so fast. And I have both characteristics, which scare defenders. Playing at San Siro is really fantastic, I think it is one of those things that children dream of when they start playing. San Siro gives me a boost that I have never had in any other stadium.
NICKNAME – They call me Tikus because when I was little my family took the end of petit, which means small in French, and the end of Marcus, which is cus, and so Tikus was born. My idols? In football Adriano, in sport in general perhaps Mohammed Ali.
DERBY – Most beautiful goal? The one I made against Milan in the first derby. The hardest thing I’ve done in my life was just to score a goal against Maignan. The thing I would never do? Root for Milan.
