A survey launched on the inter.it website with the best intentions turned into the episode that marked the end of the relationship between Sabatini and Inter. The journalist, speaking on YouTube, recounted the behind-the-scenes story related to his departure from the Nerazzurri club, where he had served as press officer.

It all started from an emergency situation in attack: Ronaldo and Vieri were injured and Moratti was firmly set on Romario. “He was expensive in terms of salary but Moratti wanted him, he imagined a future attack with Romario and Ronaldo,” Sabatini recalled. It was Tardelli who blocked the deal, opposing the purchase of the Brazilian, so the club turned to Ferrante, “easy to acquire.”

At that time Sabatini was involved in managing inter.it, which he describes as a site “ahead of everyone.” He was the one who introduced the poll feature, together with two webmasters. It was precisely that idea that cost him his job: “I did this poll for the fans: who do you prefer between Romario and Ferrante? The result seemed obvious, I even thought I was doing Moratti a favor.”

The outcome was unexpected: 51% for Ferrante, 49% for Romario. The result ended up in a newspaper and the consequences were not long in coming. “I realized that this would harm Moratti,” Sabatini explained. The day after presenting Ferrante at Inter, he was dismissed from the club. “I learned, through a third party, that Moratti was very disappointed with whoever had the idea to do that poll.”
