The Inter U23 project is gradually starting to take shape. The new Nerazzurri team, which Inter’s management has been working on intensely over recent months, will debut next season in the new Serie C championship.
This significant project could represent a turning point for Inter in developing young talent, especially those emerging from their youth system. An intermediate step between the Primavera team and the first squad will considerably reduce the number of players that the club sends out on loan during the summer to lower-tier clubs.
The Inter U23 squad, which will play home matches at Monza’s U-Power Stadium, will also soon officially appoint a manager. After dropping the option of the highly-rated Chivu, who became coach of Parma following the dismissal of Pecchia, a familiar name has returned to prominence around Viale della Liberazione.
As reported by Tuttosport this morning, Stefano Vecchi is now the leading candidate for the Inter U23 bench. Vecchi previously coached Inter’s Primavera team from 2014 to 2018, notably winning six trophies and also temporarily managing the senior side for five matches following the sackings of Frank de Boer and Stefano Pioli.
Currently under contract with Vicenza, Vecchi dreams of achieving promotion into Serie B, but a call from Inter would likely be difficult for him to turn down. Other names in contention for the Nerazzurri second team include Fabio Gallo Entella, currently top of Group B, Aimo Diana Feralpisalò, presently third in Group A, and Lamberto Zauli recently dismissed by Perugia in mid-February.
