The 2024/2025 Champions League, the first edition featuring the new format, is proving to be a significant opportunity for Inter Milan, not only from a sporting perspective but also economically. So far, the Italian side has successfully reached the quarter-finals, thanks to an exceptional run that has already assured them substantial financial gains.
Let’s therefore analyze how much income Inter has already secured through their Champions League journey and how much more they could potentially earn.
Champions League 2024/2025: prize distribution
The total prize pot for the renewed Champions League format is 2.47 billion euros. This sum is divided into three distinct areas: 27.5% 670 million euros as a participation fee, 35% 853 million euros based on the club’s market value and coefficient ranking European results of recent years and 37.5% 914 million euros depending on the results in the competition itself.
The participation bonus, provided to each of the 36 teams qualifying for the new single-group format of the Champions League 2024/25, amounts to 18.62 million euros. Market value, as previously mentioned, will be allocated according to UEFA’s so-called value, a combination of the market pool the market value of TV rights and the club’s historical ranking.
More complex is the approach to distributing revenue based on competition results, which we will now analyze in detail.
Champions League 2024/2025: payout for each round
With the revamped Champions League format, the match result bonuses have changed: a victory is now rewarded with 2.1 million euros, while a draw earns 700,000 euros. Additionally, a new extra bonus has been introduced linked to the team’s final position in the overall group-stage table. This amount is split into 666 equal shares, each worth 275,000 euros. Clubs earn more shares automatically as their final group ranking position improves.
After the single-group phase, teams no longer receive match-specific bonuses; instead, they are awarded prizes based on how far they advance. These are:
- 1 million euros for each team qualifying to the playoff round
- 11 million euros for qualifying for the Round of 16
- 12.5 million euros for reaching the Quarter-finals
- 15 million euros for reaching the Semi-finals
- 18.5 million euros for each team reaching the Final
- 6.5 million euros for the winning team plus an extra 4 million euros for qualification to the European Super Cup
Champions League 2024/2025: how much has Inter already earned
Thanks to their participation bonus, market value share, and finishing the group stage in 4th place, thus directly qualifying for the Round of 16, Inter have already secured the record sum of 87.9 million euros. Their double-leg knock-out win against Feyenoord brought in an additional 12.5 million euros, pushing the total beyond the 100-million-euro threshold.
