Davide Frattesi has spoken again about his departure from Inter in the summer. The midfielder, now playing for Lazio, spoke at a press conference from the national team training camp, explaining the reasons for his transfer and revealing a behind-the-scenes detail related to his stay last season.

“It all started last year when I couldn’t find consistency, also rightly so because I wasn’t feeling well,” Frattesi recounted. “It was a difficult year for me, but then when they trust you, you start again at full speed. I’m happy to have started like this and to have arrived here like this.” The player then compared his current happiness to what he experienced at Sassuolo: “They are two different kinds of happiness. These three years at Inter I experienced moments that can’t be replicated in terms of emotions, there were many ups and downs. The first year everything went smoothly, then ups and downs, with very low lows and very high highs.”

The midfielder highlighted how playing time is fundamental for a footballer’s well-being: “Then you only feel great in a place if you play, that’s the truth. Now I’m very happy because I’ve started having fun again, something I missed last year at Inter. These are phases, but now the fun I had as a child has returned.” Frattesi revealed an important detail about his choice to stay the previous season: “I don’t think so. I was coming off a year with Inzaghi, with great emotions and crucial goals like the one against Barcelona. Then Chivu arrived, we talked and said things to each other that convinced me not to push to leave, also because I was in love with that environment. In hindsight it’s easy to talk, but I don’t think I left too late.”

The player also emphasized the decisive role of Rino Gattuso in his choice to join Lazio: “I went to Lazio because I wanted to go back there and because he was there, he played a fundamental role in the decision.” On his current physical condition, Frattesi said he was satisfied: “Now I’m good, I’m starting to feel good over the course of 90 minutes. Now that I’m playing I always want to do 100 things but that’s part of the process, anyway I’m good and I’m ready for these matches.”

The midfielder finally commented on the national team’s journey and the start of the season for his club: “What I like is that a great group has been created and that makes the difference, because you can get over disappointments well and recharge.”
