Speaking at the press conference at the end of the derby between Inter-Milan lost 0-1 after an unlucky match, affected by two shots hitting the post by his players and a missed penalty by Hakan Calhanoglu, Cristian Chivu tried to analyze what went wrong tonight at San Siro. The coach spoke not only about his team’s performance, but also about the impact Diouf had at the end of the match:
PERFORMANCE – “The team that scores one more goal wins. We tried to be dominant. We maintained maturity to avoid conceding on counterattacks. On the first one, we conceded a goal. We lost a bit of clarity, a bit of composure. But the reaction was there. We conceded a few shots on goal. Credit goes to the opponent who managed to play a careful and organized match.”
STANDINGS – “We have to improve and do better in this type of match. We are three points from the top. We have to try to do a little more. We will find solutions, we will find things that will allow us to win a direct clash. We need to improve mentally, even though we did better than against Napoli. We need to improve in our perception of danger.”
DERBY – “A complicated derby? I saw a good performance, I saw a team that brought desire and initiative to the field. The desire to break this taboo of direct clashes was there. We lost a second ball and were not able to stop that action.”
DIOUF – “He always prefers to come inside the field. In a 4-4-2, wide on the right to go one-on-one, he did some good things. We are happy with how he is integrating, we needed him, a player who tries to beat his man. And I would say he did some nice things.”
TRANSFER MARKET – “Gaps in the squad? I appreciate your curiosity and I really appreciate your work. But I lost the derby and I don’t feel like talking about the transfer market. I am concerned that it could leave some marks and I don’t want that. I have 22 good outfield players, they have the characteristics to be at Inter. I enjoy what I have and try to find solutions despite injuries. I’m not thinking about the transfer market.”
