Without losing the clarity of analysis that distinguishes him, Cristian Chivu spoke at the end of the derby lost against Milan 0-1 to the microphones of Dazn. The Inter coach on one hand praised his team’s good performance, unlucky in the first half to hit the woodwork twice and to find a great Maignan in front of them. At the same time, however, the coach admitted a certain frustration at not having collected even a single point in such a match. These were his words:
THE MATCH – “Not only what we created, but the performance, the tension. We didn’t concede counterattacks, the only time we went for a long ball and lost a second ball, they scored. But I take the good performance of the boys. They tried in every way, this is the spirit I want to see. Clearly, when you lose a derby, the fourth defeat in twelve matches, it’s too many. But luckily the standings are tight, we’re there. We have to manage the disappointments, losing a match like this can leave some marks in terms of frustration.”
SOMMER’S MISTAKE – “I don’t do that kind of analysis, I know what we create and what we concede. On an individual level I never go, for me mine are the best. I see them every day at work, I could never come here and point the finger, when you point the finger there’s a smell of failure. I don’t want to give this feeling or look for excuses for my boys. We’re all in it for better or worse, we could all have done well, we could have unlocked it or managed the moments. We only have the duty to get back up because on Wednesday we have an equally important match.”
REGRET – “Because of the characteristics of our players we are a bit forced to attack with many men, that exposes you more to counterattacks. But today we conceded one counterattack and it was fatal, just as in these twelve matches we have conceded little for the risks we take. We need to perceive danger more, commit a few more fouls, take a yellow when needed to avoid conceding so many counterattacks.”
LAUTARO – “Lautaro is fine, he’s fine. Why did he come off? Can’t I change players? It’s a technical choice, mine, I think the guys on the bench deserve their chance to contribute, both Bonny and Pio. It was my choice, my decision.”
