Former goalkeeper Braglia took part in the radio program Maracanà on TMW, where he answered a question about Josep Martinez, the Inter goalkeeper who has come under fire for some inconsistent performances at the start of the season.
Braglia chose to broaden the discussion to the entire role, arguing that the difficulty does not concern only the Nerazzurri goalkeeper: “Martinez? In my opinion, it’s the goalkeeper position itself that is in crisis: I’ve never seen so many mistakes since the start of the championship. When the goalkeeper saves, the unstoppable cannot be saved by anyone. Even Roma itself is having difficulties, with no disrespect to Gollini. We’re seeing mistakes from Maignan, from Vicario, and from others with consistent performances who, however, are not delivering.”
The former footballer then identified the increased involvement in play as the main cause of these widespread difficulties: “The goalkeeper has too much to do, whereas it used to be different. The more you involve the goalkeeper in a game that isn’t his, the more you expose him to problems.”
