Three defeats in the last forty Serie A matches, all against Milan: this is the statistic with which Adani opens his analysis of the derby, played Saturday evening at San Siro and ended 3-1 in favor of the Rossoneri. The former defender, speaking on the Viva el Futbol channel, then developed his reasoning on three distinct levels: technical-tactical, mental, and communicative.

On the tactical front, Adani judged positively the choice of the 3-5-1-1 with Mkhitaryan. “It’s a good call. It’s a compromise between the difficulty given by necessity, considering the problems of Pio Esposito and Bonny, and not forcing a 3-4-2,” he explained. However, he emphasized how varying the rotations compared to the usual automatisms comes at a cost, especially when the opponent presses from the very first minutes and leaves no room to get back into the game.

The clearest point concerns the criticism directed at Chivu. “The criticism of Chivu is excessive,” said Adani, recalling that before the derby Inter had made “the best start in its history, since it was founded.” He added that the coach is among those who oppose those who consider the team perfect, warning them, and that this attitude has not been adequately recognized.

On the level of responsibility, however, Adani is direct: Chivu’s weak point concerns the mental management of the group. “Inter, I repeat, that match is particular, because there is also a mental aspect,” he specified. He then cited the coach’s own words after the match — “We need to regain humility” — as confirmation of a real problem, already pointed out by Adani in his analysis.

Adani also emphasized that in the context of the standings, no team gives up: yesterday six of the top seven in the table won, with the only exception being Inter. A fact that, according to him, makes it even more urgent to renew ideas and motivation within the group. The analysis ended with a mention of defensive errors, citing Pulisic’s goal as an example of a missed marking — “he was never watched by anyone” — and the behavior of Bisseck in that circumstance.
