The transfer of John Stones to Inter could have taken a different direction. The English central defender had in fact also received offers from Chelsea and Arsenal, but in the end he gave priority to the Nerazzurri project.
This was revealed by Fabrizio Romano through his YouTube channel, unveiling the details of the negotiation that brought the player to Italy. The centre-back chose Milan for very specific technical and tactical reasons, related to the role he will play in the tactical setup.
“Stones also had calls from Chelsea and Arsenal. He gave priority to Italy and Inter, and I was told that the Nerazzurri club made him feel important also in terms of formation, as a style of play, at the center of a three-man defense. Stones chose Inter, Inter chose Stones,” explained Romano.
The English defender was convinced by the technical project presented to him, particularly by the possibility of playing at the center of a back three. The Nerazzurri club made him feel like a central element of the project, both from a tactical point of view and for the importance of the role he will play.
