Inter has set an internal deadline to close the Romero deal: end of the month, at most ten days. The urgency comes from the fear that other clubs, currently unable to make a move due to budget constraints, could step in after making sales. Barcelona, for example, is following the defender but must first free up space. After the Palestra disappointment, the desire to avoid further setbacks is at its highest.
On Friday, sporting director Ausilio met in Milan with the agents of the Argentine center-back, who is set to leave Tottenham. The player has given initial consent to the transfer, attracted by the prospect of being a starter in Milan. The main obstacle remains the agreement with the English club, which values Romero at 50 million euros. Inter is convinced that the amount could drop to around 40 million, considering the breakdown between the player and the London environment.
According to Tuttosport, the Nerazzurri management will clarify in the coming days whether it is a total of 40 million — 35 plus bonuses — or 40 as a base plus possible add-ons. The chosen formula will be a permanent transfer, with no loans with obligation or option to buy. Inter intends to put a firm offer on the table, counting on the possibility of spreading the payment over several years.
It remains to be seen whether the arrival of the Argentine center-back will mean the sale of a key player from the squad. The club denies this hypothesis: a meeting is scheduled soon for the renewal of Bisseck until 2031, while Bastoni is considered a cornerstone of the team. However, some questions still linger within the Nerazzurri circles.
