After a turbulent summer, amid transfer rumors and offers from Turkey, Calhanoglu is experiencing a calmer period following the World Cup with the Turkish national team. At 32 years old, and with his agent not fueling speculation, the playmaker may not become the subject of negotiations among the directors. Chivu has expressed a clear opinion to Marotta and Ausilio: “You won’t find another like him,” making a sale inadvisable. Within the club, there is agreement on this approach, also because a potential sale would not guarantee significant figures.
The strategy is for Calhanoglu to stay, and then discuss a possible extension at the right time. If no agreement is reached, the parties will part ways without major financial damage for Inter, who signed him on a free transfer from Milan in the summer of 2021.
Meanwhile, the club is working on succession for age-related reasons. Aleksandar Stankovic, who returned from Bruges for 23 million, will be tested as Calhanoglu’s deputy. Compared to Zielinski, a worthy replacement last season, the young midfielder has the tactical and physical characteristics best suited to the playmaker role.
