Romero costs twice as much as the Oaktree stakes, but Inter is counting on the exception

Inter has identified its priority to strengthen the defense: Cristian Romero. The Nerazzurri club is focusing its efforts on the Argentine, aware that the deal involves figures well above the parameters set by the ownership.

According to Corriere dello Sport, Oaktree‘s guidelines set a cap of 25 million for the transfer fee and 2.5 million for the salary, so as to keep the annual cost within 10 million. In the case of Romero, however, the requested salary would be double, and Tottenham‘s valuation would also be around 50 million euros.

The Spurs do not seem opposed to the sale, considering that the defender is not among De Zerbi’s first choices, who is inclined to focus on Van Hecke, who arrived from Brighton for 60 million. Inter hopes to work to lower the price and obtain a more favorable formula, possibly a loan with a conditional obligation, in line with the agreements made a year ago with Manchester City for Akanji.

The final go-ahead for the deal, as it is an exception to the established parameters, will have to come from Oaktree. The negotiation is nonetheless underway and the Nerazzurri management is working to find the right key.
