The future of Benjamin Pavard could influence Inter‘s transfer strategies in defense. The French defender has returned to Milan after his loan at Marseille and has expressed his desire to stay, but the club is also considering the possibility of a sale.
On July 10, the player showed up in Milan for physical tests at Coni. He told the fans: “If they want me, I’ll stay.” A statement that leaves every possibility open, considering that the Nerazzurri club needs to rebuild its defensive department after the departures of Acerbi, De Vrij, and Darmian.
The Inter management knows they need to sign at least two defenders, but Pavard’s return represents a variable element in the planning. The Frenchman, valued on the books at around 12.5 million euros, performed well during the ten days of training camp in Germany. However, according to Tuttosport, he remains on the market: if an adequate offer arrives within a month – there is strong interest from Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia – the club could sell him and replace him with an experienced defender at a low cost, a move similar to that of Acerbi in 2022.
Otherwise, if the right offer does not materialize and Pavard convinces both Chivu and the locker room, the Frenchman could remain as an alternative. In this scenario, Inter would limit themselves to just one signing in the defensive department, with Romero remaining the main target.
