The Inter transfer market is on standby, but not closed. The Nerazzurri management continues to evaluate profiles to invest in to complete the squad available to Chivu. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the real target remains Curtis Jones from Liverpool.

Negotiations for Cuti Romero, now almost compromised due to the impasse over Benji Pavard‘s departure and the involvement of Atletico Madrid, and the rekindled interest in Moussa Diaby, complicated by the resistance of Al-Ittihad and the pressure from Bayer Leverkusen, have brought attention back to defense and the right flank. However, the midfield remains the department under observation: numerically overcrowded, but with a name that has never left the thoughts of the club and the coach.

Jones is a long-standing favorite. The 25-year-old from Liverpool has been liked for some time because he was born as a central midfielder but is skilled at making runs into the opponent’s attacking third, a characteristic appreciated by Chivu who wants to make his Inter even more vertical. He has also played in front of the defense, which would allow him to alternate with Calhanoglu. Last season he was also seen playing further back, as a full-back: a chameleon-like player capable of covering multiple roles.

Beyond the financial aspect – the Reds are asking for at least 40 million despite his contract expiring in June 2027 – the issue is also numerical. It is not certain that selling a surplus player like Frattesi would be enough to clear the way for the Englishman. It would be a different story if Aleksandar Stankovic were to leave.

The son of a football legend, even during the recently concluded tour, rehearsed as Calha’s deputy with mixed fortunes, with the mitigating factor of his age and being one of the latest arrivals in a very different context compared to Bruges. Inter cherishes him as one of its best jewels and just a few days ago refused 40 million from Brentford. This is further confirmation of how much the Nerazzurri value him and the sums that foreign clubs are willing to invest.

For this reason, it cannot be ruled out that other big clubs will come knocking at the offices on Viale della Liberazione. With offers for his transfer and potentially even higher wages for the player, it will be difficult not to sit down and reflect. Stankovic recently reiterated how much he wants to seize every chance he has with Inter and that he has returned to stay. The club values him and did not hesitate when it came to buying him back in June. But the ways of the transfer market are endless, especially for a midfielder with playmaking skills, the same versatile qualities also possessed by that old favorite who plays for Liverpool.
