The Nerazzurri management is working on Cristian Romero as an absolute priority to strengthen the defensive department. Oaktree has given the green light for the investment in the Argentine center-back, who represents the ideal profile: international experience and a desire to return to Serie A.
Sporting director Piero Ausilio confirmed the negotiation yesterday on the sidelines of an event in Calabria: “There is an interest and we have expressed it to the club and the player. These things take time. We’ll see.” Contacts are ongoing both with the defender’s entourage and with the management of Tottenham, with the aim of finding an agreement that satisfies all parties.
According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Spurs’ valuation is around 50 million euros, a figure the Milanese club will try to reduce during negotiations. The American ownership, however, is willing to support the operation for a player who would like to leave London, where the team will not play in European competitions next season.
The defensive needs remain clear: two signings are needed, or just one if Pavard stays in the squad. The coming week could prove decisive for the evolution of the negotiation, with all parties working to finalize the details of the agreement.
