The coach of Union Saint-Gilloise, David Hubert, has broken his silence about Anan Khalaili, who returned to Belgium after the CONI block that prevented his registration with Inter. The coach said he spoke with the Israeli player during the most difficult moments of the situation.
“Anan had been dreaming of signing in Italy for several weeks. When it is taken away from you at the last minute, it is hard to accept. I sent him messages and we spoke on the phone. We talk almost every day,” Hubert said.
According to the newspaper L’Avenir, Khalaili was ready to return immediately to Belgium to train with the team, but the club advised him to take some time with his family in Israel. “We gave him time to be with his family and the goal is for him to return to us next week,” the coach added.
Regarding the future of the twenty-one-year-old, Hubert spoke cautiously: “We’ll see what the future holds for him, but I know his potential and I know how hard he has worked to reach this level. It’s an unpleasant situation from both a sporting and human point of view. We must not forget that he is only 21 years old. However, he has behaved with great maturity throughout this period.”
Saint-Gilloise plans to subject the player to new medical tests upon his return, to provide a complete picture of his condition to interested clubs. The failed transfer to Inter has not discouraged teams from other countries who were already following him. “I trust the work of the club. We are prepared for both the possibility that he stays and that he leaves. If he does leave, I believe we will sign another player for that role,” Hubert concluded.
