The loan to Marseille did not work out, where Arthur Vermeeren was unable to establish himself and currently boasts only 23 total appearances, very often starting from the bench. Only in November did he manage to find a bit of consistency, but due to OM’s troubled season, the Belgian midfielder did not take off and the French club have reportedly decided not to exercise the buyout option set at 20 million euros.
This is reported by the German newspaper BILD, according to which Vermeeren will return to Leipzig, which, however, could still sell the player given that in the summer the goal is to reach 100 million euros in revenue from player sales.
Inter and Tottenham, according to the same newspaper, have therefore set their sights on Vermeeren. Born in 2005, he also had a stint at Atletico Madrid, from which Leipzig bought him for just over 20 million. He is a modern defensive midfielder, skilled in front of the defense both in ball recovery and in setting up play, and also good under pressure. After an unremarkable season, his valuation should not be around the 20 million that had been agreed with Marseille for the buyout.
