Collovati on Romero: excellent defenders are needed, not just good ones

Fulvio Collovati expressed his opinion on Cristian Romero, the main transfer target for the Nerazzurri. The former national team defender and 1982 World Cup champion spoke during the television broadcast in tones that were anything but enthusiastic.

“I’ll make a phone call to De Zerbi and have him tell me what he really thinks of Romero,” Collovati said from the Domenica Sportiva studios. The reference to the current coach who worked with the Argentine defender highlights his intention to further evaluate the player.

The former world champion then added: “Listening to some people, it seems like we’re talking about Rudi Krol.” The comparison with the legendary Dutchman shows how, according to Collovati, the expectations surrounding the player are excessive compared to his actual value.

“Inter doesn’t need good defenders: Inter needs excellent defenders, it’s different,” Collovati continued, drawing a clear distinction between the two categories. To support his thesis, he invited people to check the numbers: “Go and see how many goals Argentina conceded at the World Cup.”
